My friends desktop computer makes a buzzing noise. It started when he upgraded to a 7770. Since his psu could have been too short on wattage he replaced it. That did not work so it might have been a bad gpu so he upgraded to a 770, still buzzing. It usually gets louder when he plays games. He stopped every case fan one by one and also the cpu fan. He originally bought a pre built $500 computer around 3 to 4 years ago. I dont know if this matters but his os was crashing so he reinstalled it which fixed the crashing.

The HDD maybe. Can you be a bit more specific on the noise? I had it coming to, like a high pitch knocking-buzzing sound. For me, it was a wire that kept hitting a fan blade. Also check to see if the fans are properly attached. I'd recommend you unplug everything (fans, hard drives, graphics cards ect,,,) expect for your mobo, cpu, and cpu fan and see if there is a noise. Then proceed to plug in each thing one by one until you pinpoint the problem.

I had a similar problem with my sound card. It had a constant buzz which was rather annoying, and it got worse when my GPU was under load. After building my new PC (same GPU and the same sound card, but further apart) I concluded that it was likely electrical interference from the GPU to the sound card when they were very close together. If the buzzing ramps up with GPU load it could be EMI related (either from the GPU or PSU). I'm not sure what to suggest, I fixed mine by moving the sound card away from the GPU and PSU, but that isn't an option for onboard audio.

Edit: Sorry, I misread the post, I thought it was buzzing in the speakers. Disregard my advise.

You say it happened with both GPUs? If so it may be from the PSU. You could try the graphics card in another system to see if the card is whining. Sorry I can't suggest anything else.
