Hello everyone. I am in the market for a new MOBO (my current ones CPU fan header died and I'm wanting PCIE 4.0). I don't want to spend a ridiculous amount but I also don't necessarily want a super budget one either. So far I've narrowed it down to the ASUS ROG Strix B550-F for $249 CAD or the ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus for $239 CAD. I'm not super knowledgeable about MOBOs unfortunately so I was hoping to get the communities opinion. I know that the B550 boards are considered "budget" compared to the X570s so I was wondering if there was a legitimate reason why the ROG was $10 more. As well if there are any other boards for around the same pricepoint or cheaper that you would recommend that would be appreciated as well. Thank you in advance ♥

What are your priorities? If you're planning on doing serious overclocking, I'd recommend something from the VRM Tier List, like the MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK. There really aren't too many differences between B550 and X570, you should just choose one that has all the features you want (and isn't ridiculously expensive).

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

I'm not looking for anything too fancy, only minor OC for GPU/CPU as well as the PCIE 4.0. I have a 3800x and planning to get a 3080 when they release.

In that case, I'd recommend either the Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS or MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK. Both are well-rated boards, with great VRMs and features, and both will enable you to use PCIe 4.0.

If you can spend a little bit more, I can recommend you Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro WiFi. Pretty much the sweet spot for main stream X570 motherboard.

Strictly between these two, they use the same vrm (which are 12 sic639's), main difference between b550 and x570 is x570 boards are gen 4 across the whole board and b550, allows the lanes that are wired to the cpu to be gen 4 and the rest that's wired to the chipset is gen 3.

Are you limited to these? Budget? And what are you powering?  Nvm it's a 3800x, then strictly between these two both will handle a 3800x easily but again, budget and are you limited to these two?

PC: Motherboard: ASUS B550M TUF-Plus, CPU: Ryzen 3 3100, CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34, GPU: GIGABYTE WindForce GTX1650S, RAM: HyperX Fury RGB 2x8GB 3200 CL16, Case, CoolerMaster MB311L ARGB, Boot Drive: 250GB MX500, Game Drive: WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD.

Peripherals: GK61 (Optical Gateron Red) with Mistel White/Orange keycaps, Logitech G102 (Purple), BitWit Ensemble Grey Deskpad.

Audio: Logitech G432, Moondrop Starfield, Mic: Razer Siren Mini (White).

Phone: Pixel 3a (Purple-ish).

Not necessarily limited to those two, those are just the most popular and most accessible where I live

what other options that are available where you live? and again budget for the board? but as i said, between these two, they'll both easily handle a 3800x.

Theres also the Gigabyte B550 AORUS Pro & Elite, the MAG B550 Tomahawk and the more budget Prime X570-P and then most of the rest are out of my budget. I'm also most comfortable with Asus' software but I'm sure other boards I can pick up pretty easily

the aorus pro and tomahawk are good, if you need/ prefer an asus board, the b550 strix f is solid.
