Hey, I recently upgraded my rig (specs bellow) and when I try to turn on XMP it always boot loops and/or says it fails. I've tried everything I could, even manually doing it even though im not an expert, also tried upping the volts. I cant figure this out for the life of me. I can only boot and use my computer at 2133mhz which I obviously don't want. (idk if this is relevant or not, but I haven't reinstalled a fresh copy of windows, this is the same old hard drive from my previous parts)

CPU: i5 9600k

Mobo: MSI z390-a Pro

RAM: Corsair vengeance LPX 16GB (8x2) 3600mhz

(all these parts are upgraded from my previous rig)

*if u fix this I will paypal you im that desperate*

I’m sorry I can’t help with the problem but I just need to say that I doubt anyone on this forum would accept the payment. I’m pretty sure we’re all just here to help each other.

I just thought. Have you tried to update the bios on the motherboard.

This memory is basically the "value ram" line of Corsair memory.

I don't expect it to run its rated frequency.

Try 2933mhz to start.

Manually set 1.35v

Leave timings on auto.

XMP to disabled.

Find Vccio and set to 1.10v

Find Vccia and set to 1.10v

(If applicable to bios)

If that posts, run and test.

If it passes your testing,

Incrementally increase the frequency until it's unstable.

Lower back to a stable frequency and run it.

Overclocking is never a guarantee, same for memory XMP profiles.

I did everything (except the Vccio/Vccia part because its not in my bios) and I managed to get it to 3000mhz without it failing. Is this the max I can get or is there another way to increase the mhz?

XMP slightly overclocks the CPU, 3600Mhz is the XMP speed. If that speed doesn't work with that CPU then you won't get it to work. The i5/i7/i9 CPU only supports DDR4-2666.

Corsair's memory picker doesn't recommend that set. It recommends 3200 and 3000 (and also a 3800), so you might either have to do without, or manually tweak the XMP settings if you want to use that RAM or you may be better off returning it and picking something listed as compatible.

I would be fine with 3200mhz if it would work. Is there a video or guide to properly set my XMP settings to run at 3200mhz for my ram?

So what are the timings the board picked?

SK Hynix is so difficult to work with.... More frequency, probably won't be easy to come by.

2133 to 3000mhz is 866mhz increase in frequency. (433mhz effective)

The cpu is rated for 2667mhz however, and probably doesn't like your memory kit.

These are my timings, I confirmed this by checking BIOS aswell.

side note: I really appreciate you and everyone else helping me out

Well for starters look at the actual settings for the 3200 kit

image.png.cc3e6861af34a03d86b19a6306bc0d67.png

compared to the kit you have, which I'm not sure is the C14,C18 or C20 kit. Below is the C14 kit:

Looks like the voltages are the same here. So any sub-tweaking may be dependent on your BIOS.

MSI says (the 18C) model is compatible as this:
