Geforce RTX 2070 super decrease in performance for no apparent reason

Hi everyone,

 

Just last month I set about building a new gaming rig. However a month into my rig being built and used I have noticed a severe decrease in overall performance of Galax RTX 2070 super. This performance decrease is most notable in my frame rate in games such as: League of Legends (140+fps average down to an 75fps average), Modded Minecraft (60+fps down to 30fps) and Apex Legends (144fps down to 100fps.) I have attempted to remedy the situation myself by using DDU to reinstall the drivers as wells as adjusting my overclocking to no avail. I would greatly appreciate any advice (check below for pc specifications.)

 

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3600XT 4.1ghz

GPU: GALAX RTX 2070 Super EX

RAM: 2X16gb GSkill Trident Z 3000mhz

BOARD: ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING

PSU: Be quite! 650w Gold Standard Power Supply

CPU COOLER: AORUS LIQUID 240MM DUAL CPU COOLER

BIOS VERSION: American Megatrends Inc. 3003, 9/12/2019

OPERATING SYSTEM: 64/bit

Why down the power limt to 88%? It's 100% at stock.

I downed it because I was experiencing greater lag at 100+.

but is fps higher?

 

Also check the operating temperatures, maybe it's overheating

I booted up league this is with the power target at 100% temp can be displayed in top left and fps in top right.

Are you running on max settings? Sometimes power management can be so aggressive that it downclocks too much when the load is too light

what if you use HWinfo in sensor mode to monitor thermals of everything else? Just start HWinfo, and play some random games. Still inclined to think something's overheating, you dont break cores in just months.

So I have been running msi komustor on burn in mode for the last 10mins and my highest temp across my whole stystem was 70 °C. The rest of the pc stayed around 50/60 °C.

what about CPU and GPU usage numbers?

 

Make sure the memory sticks are running at their rated speeds and dual channel

Well in heaven benchmark my GPU will increase to 90/95% and my cpu to 50%/40%, but in most of my games it refuses to ramp up and yes I have dual channel and D.O.C enabled in BIOS.

Hmm so maybe the GPU is bottlenecked elsewhere. CPU clock speed and usage ramping up properly in games right? Then check with memory frequency, HWinfo and CPU-Z can do that (and reports half the number)

So I checked in with HWINFO and noticed that the drive that I store my games on had a yellow alert logo next to it. So, I went into properties and fixed the HDD. I ran league and I am back to the same frame rate I had before! Which explains why I saw good numbers in all of my bench marking software because they are stored on my SSD with my system files. Anyhow, thank you Jurrunio for your help you have been great and thank you for showing me a very useful free hardware information tool!
