Other details:

Hi, I apologize in advance if I break any conventions of the as this is literally my first post here.

With Cyberpunk approaching on the horizon I look at my dear computer and I can see that It probably needs an upgrade to run the long awaited game, and so I thought that I would ask for help as to how I could get it up to spec.

I mostly use my computer for gaming and I mostly play things such as The Witcher, Metro, Deus Ex and the games by Paradox Interactive.

So my question to the forum is, how would be the best approach to prepare my old computer for Cyberpunk 2077?

Currently my setup is.
GPU: Radeon R9 290

CPU: Intel Core i5 7600K 3.8 GHz 4 cores 4 threads 6

CPU Cooler: Enermax ETS-T40F-TB

Ram: Crucial DDR4 16 GB: 2 x 8 GB DIMM 288-PIN 213 (for some reason only one of the two sticks work)

Motherboard: MSI H110M GAMING Motherboard micro-ATX LGA1151 S

Storage is a 250 gb SSD and a 1 TB hard drive.

Power supply: Corsair TX Series V2 850W 850TX 80+ Bronze (this is the oldest component as it is from 2011).

I use two screens, my primary is a AOC G2460VQ6 and my secondary is a AOC E2243FW 21.5", both are 1920x1080.

I'd wait until the new GPUs from NVIDIA launch and invest the whole budget into a new GPU like a 3060/3070. The rest should be fine.

Edit: You can also overclock your CPU to get more performance without replacing it.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

So your CPU should be good, so maybe just upgrade the GPU. New releases are coming out over the coming months, but minimum of what's out now, I would say RTX 2060 or RX 5700 XT.

Since the CPU is relatively new I did expect that it would be necessary to swap out the GPU. With the coming releases are there any that you would recommend looking after?

Do you think that my 8 gb of ram are enough? (I bought some from a noname brand (big mistake) and one of the sticks or a slot in my motherboard dont work so i am stuck with 8gb). Also I dont dare Overclock as I know precisely zero about it.

Look at the RTX 3060/3070 and buy the highest-end one that you can afford.

Overlooked that. I'd recommend to get a 16GB kit for about 60-70$ like a corsair vengeance 3200 kit or something similar.

Overclocking, especially with Intel is really easy. There are plenty of good tutorials out there. You can't reall break anything because your CPU has built-in security features. It's never too late to learn about it. Who knows, maybe it's even fun for you. For me it certainly is.

you cant invest the whole budget into the gpu and be able to overclock. a new motherboard will also be needed

overclocking is not that difficult, just look up a tutorial it is simple, quick, and painless

If overclocking is not a priority do you think I will be able to keep the motherboard or will a replacement be needed no matter what?

This is very similar to a 1070 in performance, but i would take a 1070/1070ti used over a 1660ti

So you don't think that waiting for the rtx 30xx cards is the right call?
