Budget Camera Kit

Go to solution Solved by StormtrooperStu,

I have the Canon 700D (T5i) but the best deal around at the moment is the Nikon 3200.

Do you need video recording features? If not, this is a great bundle that I used to use

http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Digital-18-55mm-3-5-5-6G-55-200mm/dp/B009TETZJ0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1394032411&sr=8-2&keywords=Nikon+D3000+kit

I don't know much about the Canon side of things, which I know you said you would prefer.

I'm not sure about what goodies you are talking about but here are some options you have is getting an older model like the t3i from canon with a kit lens or going over budget on a t4i(newer improved model). I would advise to get the kit lens at first and later on get different ones since they are pretty expensive, but where I currently live the nikon d5300 only costs 500€, but that's about 750$, but you could get the d5200 or the d3300, both of these are a bit older than the d5300

but a good alternative to dslr is the sony camera line, but they are slowly fading from the market, but they have some really cool NEX products, these are like point and shoots, but their picture quality is much better and they also have all the adjustability of a dslr

That seems promising. Do you have any sample shots?

**Edit - I actually would like to video record. How does the D3100 sound? Would buying the 55-200mm lens be worth it. http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-14-2MP-Digital-18-55mm-3-5-5-6/dp/B003ZYF3LO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394032920&sr=8-1&keywords=Nikon+-+D3100

I budget build well. Want to learn? PM me if you want advice.

By "goodies" I mean a Lens and a Camera Bag. A shoulder strap would be nice also.

These are some pictures that I took today using the 18-55mm lens and the "fine" image quality. I think the red eyes are from the flash as I have never seen them before.

That camera looks good, however it can only record 1080p at 24 or 30 frames per second. If you ever wanted to do slow motion, it wouldn't look quite as smooth, but that doesn't mean it won't look good. The image quality will look great.

If you did want to do slow motion things, I would suggest the Nikon D5300. Yes, it's a little bit out of your price range. But with built in GPS and WiFi, a 24 Megapixel sensor, and 1080p 60 frames per second video recording capabilities, you really can't go wrong. My D5300 arrives tomorrow night, so if you want I can get you some sample pictures and sample video then.

The Nikon starts at around $500 with the 18-55 kit lens.

The Canon is artound €100 more.

Would the two lens bundle (not kit) be good for the price? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GC3PQ76/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=SQJE156C600Z&coliid=I26KSZME5910XT

there are a lot of different camera bags out there, but they usually cost 30- 80€ depending on the size and from what I know almost all cameras come with a shoulder strap, DSLR isn't the best for recording video though, working with the lens is flimsy and loud, you also don't have auto focus, you should be alright though as long as you don't plan on only filming. I would suggest getting the  700D, but it's over your budget. I wouldn't go with the Nikon D3000 series though, because they are built really cheap and I have the feeling that they are dumbed down for the average consumer, with the 700d you are definitely getting a entry level dslr, but it isn't sacrificing any functionality

It's nothing special. I would start with the one lens and then as you use it you will figure out what to get next. Could be a macro, prime or telephoto lens.

Nothing to see here - move along.

How much would the 55-200mm lens cost independently? Would it be better for the price over the D3100 with 18-55mm lens?

Stay away from the 3100. The 3200 is a far better camera. A Tamron or Sigma 55-200 start from around $100.

It is an ok camera but has been shadowed by the 24mp sensor in the 3200.

It would be like buying a Core2Duo over an i5.  It would work but you can have so much more.

Alright, thanks! ONe more question - Does the storage have to be some mega stupid fast SD or will any SD work?

I would go for a good class 10 card. If you want to use video you do need a faster card.

I have a 32gb class 4 card and video will not work  Sandisk Ultra are quite cheap.

Nothing to see here - move along.
