Hi all, I am posting this for my friend.

Specs:

CPU: I7 6700

Cooler: Stock

GPU: Asus Turbo GTX 970 Turbo

Ram: 16gb Corsair lpx 2400hz cl16

MB: Gigabyte H270-HD3

PSU: Corsair CX600 80+ Bronze

Storage: Wd Blue 250gb

OS: Win10 home 64bit

He has been having trouble with his pc for most of this year but refusing to fix it. His pc has been randomly crashes and restarting. The crashing seems to be random, it can happen when sitting on desktop or during a game. He took it to who built it and they couldn't get it to crash after having the pc for over a week. But as soon as he brings it home it crashes.

What have tried, I've gotten him to do some stuff but due to COVID I am unable to go to his place.

  • We ran hwinfo to log the sensor data, temps and  everything seems normal.
  • Fresh install of windows 10
  • Reset Bios
  • Graphics drivers
  • Dusted out pc
  • New cables
  • Tried another power outlet
  • Underclocking gpu
  • and a myriad of other things

We are now stuck, us and the Computer store are unsure what to do. Any help would much be appreciated.

Cheers

Graphics drivers

with DDU?

by crash you mean BSOD or hard reset?

if BSOD, any crash code?

if hard reset, tried another working GPU?

that CX600 PSU is... not great to say the least, so it might be that

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Correct, a fresh image of win 10.

No not with DDU will try that later.

Hard reset, he is not that great with computers and i am unable to help him. He has a 650 that he can maybe try and drop in.

I've suggested that but that was originally why they took it computer store, I can't think of any reasons why it crashed only at his house not at the pc store.

try a new GPU first

and if that doesnt help, maybe try another PSU

it could be caused by dirty wall power

if he's on the same circuit as his fridge/microwave/any electrically heavy appliances, he might face a crash when they kick into action

He doesn't have any PSU's lying around so unsure what to do there.

He has tried it in his dining room and his bedroom, I might try suggesting his neighbours house as his house is quiet old so possibly could be this. Would a UPS fix this?

a line interactive unit might help, but im not too familiar with UPS or PSUs to comment on this
