Drive Missing from File Explorer

Go to solution Solved by ShadySocks,

Make sure to partition the drive

Built my dad a PC for his birthday, got everything up and running yesterday. The only problem is that the 2tb hard drive in it is missing from file explorer, despite showing up in device manager. Tried a different SATA port and cable, still the same. Any ideas?

That worked, thank you. Never had to do it before with other drives, not sure why.

I had the same issue with my current build. I googled why I couldn't see it.

Made the partition then did a quick format.

I was like, "but I know I saw it in the BIOS!! WTH!!!????"

When you buy a brand new drive you always have to partition and format it before the OS can use it. Manufacturers don't know how you intend to use a drive so it's up to you to set it up for your OS.
