I have a Desktop PC but i do work on the go sometimes and my last laptop pc was a DELL Inspiron 15R. I haven't used it in many years and it has gained small bits of mold and rust on the ports only the rest is ok. Can it be restored, if so how do i do it?

Wipe it down with brake cleaner. Youtuber Tech Yes City has guides on it.

Note: do not use the environmentally safe stuff, you have to scrub a lot harder with it and you don't want to be that rough with it.

Good luck!

Your typical diluted Vinegar solution should be able to take care of that mold. I would also recommend cleaning the contacts inside and outside of the machine with some DeoxIT. Other than that, throw a SSD in it if there isn't one already, maybe add some more memory if needed and the thing should be a good companion for years to come.

I used it and got some of the mold out. Nut years did not do well on this laptop. Some of the ports are heavily damaged and one of them is the charging port and the audio jack.

Where the damn hell was this thing stored?

I would be weary of usb ports shorting out whatever is plugged into them if it's as bad as you say. Let alone the charging port. Who knows what the battery is like.. Personally I'd scrap it. But if you're strapped for cash and it's all you got...WD40 might do you well. It was originally invented to prevent warheads from rusting whilst they sat ready to launch in their silos. It works well for that purpose.

Trust me, it wasn't well kept. I stoped using it a long time ago and from then on i had been moving it from place to place. Since I didn't use it and at the time I had better options than I didn't pay any attention to it but recently Since I needed it I thought I should try breathing some life into it and upgrade some of the components like the RAM and windows 7 to windows 10, also storage. But it's has suffered to much for any repairs.
