SSD for games?

Go to solution Solved by zeusthemoose,

If you have enough room on the ssd, put it there. If not, put it on the hdd.

Hi! So I have a Lenovo laptop and I have an SSD but no HDD in the laptop. If I download games should I download them directly on the SSD or on my removable hard drive(portable not internal one). I don't play a lot of games and when I download one I will probably keep it on the drive I won't delete it immediately after that. Should I put it directly on the SSD considering it's one of the few games I have played since months or should I still put it on the portable hard drive(I mean install it there)?

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Oh I have plenty of room.  I mean it's a 512 Gb one and I have put just a few programs so it's like 400 and some Gb available. Ok so I will put it there.

Games nowadays are huge, if you install 3.4 games you won't have much space left

512GB is about as far from "plenty of room" as you can get for games. 2-3 AAA titles and you're out of space.

Well yeah but I am just gonna install tomb raider for know I don't plan on downloading a lot of games. Also I was curious is there a way in Windows to see if you have a SATA or NVMe SSD? Completely unrelated just being curious

I think if you download and run HWINFO64 it tells you.

Hwinfo (maybe disk management too) will tell you the part number or model and if you google it, it will say which it is.

It might also tell you the connection type.  It told me mine were SATA connections, but I don't have a NVMe to tell if that picks up.

Wow thanks for the tip! I found it on Google but HWinfo is super detailed gave me all the information I could need extra to my system information that displays in Windows. And I don't even have to install it it has a portable version that is an amazing program!
