Hello,

I'm looking into buying a new camera, to make it quick and fast... I'm concered, I think I wanna choose from these three:

1. Nikon D5100

2. Nikon D3200

3. Canon 600D/650D.

So, first, I'm not a photographer, so just plan to take pictures of some stuff like holidays or vacations etc...

These are the ones that fit in my budget. a D5200 is taken into consideration but it's 250-300 dollars more than D5100/D3200. Is't worth the extra money?

Should I buy it with the kit lens? or buy body and get lens alone, also, please name some nice cheap lens with the camera you suggest.

Please give me the reason you think a camera is better than another.

Thanks in advance.

P.S- This is my first post/topic in LTT, watched LTT on YouTube since a long time, and now I just registered.

If this is your first DSLR and you'll only use it for pictures I'd recommend the D3200 as it has the newest sensor. If you plan on doing some video get the 650D.

As for the lenses, pick up the kit lens, because it's very flexible and very cheap. You should also pick up an 50mm equivalent (around 35mm) prime if possible - e.g. Nikon 35mm F1.8

The D3200 is really at the lowest of the lowest of DSLR's but they are perfectly fine if you are only take photos when you go on holidays and so on.

If you are only taking photos for holidays and family pictues, the lens kit that comes with the camera is fine.

What's good about the 650D in video? Continous autofocus or w/e?

Is the D5100 any better? as Snapsort recommends the D5100 and people from other forums do the same!

Yes, the D5100 is better. Both the D5100 and D3200 are great for taking photos on a small budget. The D5100 has a bit more video features than the D3200. Although the D3200 is a newer camera.

A Canon 600D/650D plus their 50mm f/1.8 lens is a great combo for portraits, low light scenes and even video. The Nikon and Canon both have some unique features and accessories. I would go with the one that I find comfortable to use.
I don't know about these Nikons but the Canons have an external microphone port for video recording.

I personally bought a NEX-5N over a 550D when I was purchasing a DSLR, even though it's not technically a DSLR. Image quality is excellent, very good C-AF during Video and small size.

Only disadvantage is lack of view finder and phase detect AF

I need more SSDs.

Go with the T3i/600D in my opinion, I bought it as my first DSLR and love it so far.  Canon is the best for DSLR's in my honest opinion and from other opinions that I have seen.

I wood go with some thing not on you list but it meets what you need. sony nex-5 wood be the best for what you are asking for it has a good af mode, excellent all auto modes for pics and the nex mount has adapters for all the big camera lenses.

Canon dslr's are big in video world because there pro support is excellent and the cameras have the best manual mods for video excluding the black magic camera on the market.

when asking on which you NLE shud use to edit video I will tell you to get avid and an mac. life is easy when it just works.

Well, I'm not gonna buy a Canon most likely, but is the D7000 way better than the D5200?

In my opinion, the  Nikon D7xxx is the best non-full frame DSLR money can buy. However, if you're completely new, the 5200 might be more apt though you will enjoy the D7xxx features when learning the ropes. It is the only Nikon though that has a bit worse build quality than it's price suggests. It's not flimsy or anything, but it sure isn't as tanky as anything from D600 and up. If you do get one, you have the option of adding a battery pack later, which increases FPS in series mode and doubles the battery capacity, plus it adds a very strong magnesium body piece on the bottom, which is it's weakest link. You also gain another shutter release button and aperture/ shutter dial for when you're taking vertical photos (tilted 90 degs) Like so:

Nikon_D7100_18_105mm_f3_5_5_6G_ED_VR_AF_

The D7100 also has the best autofocus and screen of any Nikon camera, even beats the D4 in low light focusing. This is a bit because it's simply the newest camera from them though :P

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Not a bad lens to start with, but you definitely will have a hard time shooting in low light conditions with it since its f/3.5-5.6

What lens would you suggest?

Is getting the 18-105 and adding a 50mm 1.8 a nice choice? And is the 1.8 from Nikon as good as Canon's nifty fifty?

Really helpful, I don't really care about build quality just holding a nice camera is nice to me, and I guess the 39 AF points thing on the D7000 is enough for me, isn't it?

What lens would you suggest me to buy?

Yea thats pretty good, honestly for your first primary lens thats perfect! My first lens was a Canon 24-105mm f/4 L.

From some videos and reviews that I have seen, the Canon and Nikon 50mm both do their job. The Canon 50mm f/1.8 is very affordable but it is plasticy. Though I have had experience in using it, it doesn't feel that cheap of plastic, good buy for a lens. The Nikon 50mm f/1.8 though I think is a little more expensive but has a focusing meter. Not sure about that, not as experienced with Nikon stuff.

Definitely get yourself a 50mm f/1.8 if you want some shallow depth of field.

Let me know if anything else, Good Luck!
