buying an ipad air from craigslist. help!

pzt

Hi, im trying to buy an ipad from craigslist, its unopened and I saw pictures to prove this. The guy said that since it was new and I am sketched out i could open it infront of him. He said I could even call apple and register it in my name in order to start the 1 year warranty.

is that last part correct because I have never owned an ipad before do you have to register it to get the warranty? i thought that the warranty was just associated with the device?

Definitely open it in front of him before purchasing it.

I imagine you'd have to register it for the warranty. They seem like they'd be a registered owner only type of company.

Generally speaking registration of Apple products are done when you setup the device.  the setup process will prompt you to enter your Apple ID (account) or create a new one.  I believe this will officially start your registration.  Even if this is not the case, Apple can still honor the warranty; they are usually pretty good about these things.

Side note: As an occasional seller on Kijiji, my rule when selling "brand new sealed in box" items is that the buyer must buy the product first before opening (i.e. give me the cash).  If the box has been opened even just to look at the product, it is valued less so I want the money before I let them open it.  I know many sellers are like this, so you may wish to check with the them beforehand.

Just an update it works perfectly because it was brand spanking new. This thing is awesome and I got enough money from trading my laptop to him and him giving me cash I can get a few nice accessories for it to :)
