Nvidia GeForce drivers 452.06 problem

Hey,

I just did install latest drivers for my RTX 2060 last night and this morning I did notice that my GPU is now going to max clock speed in any game. Games that previously were running around 750Mhz now will instantly go to 1840Mhz (that's the max I've allowed through MSI Afterburner) and stay there as long as there is thermal space. Before yesterday my GPU usually did adjust the clock speed depending on load instead going "all out" at once.

This means that my GPU now runs some games at 80°C in low settings when it was 58°C yesterday. :( This is so messed up.

I don't know how to start solving this. Is this caused by some setting in GeForce Experience I'm not aware of? Some software issue between drivers and MSI Afterburner? Drivers just not working properly with my GPU? Something else? My specs are in the signature.

Thanks in advance!

DDU and install the previous version of the driver that was working before, and watch the patch notes for a bug fix. If you have a restore point just use that.

As with all GPU issues, my first troubleshooting recommendation is going to be ddu and reinstall drivers.

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

What was the recommended software for DDU? Do I need to do it in safe mode?

Okay, I'll try first to restore my Windows to previous recovery point. GeForce Experience didn't create any restore point yesterday which is weird but I'll have to go 1 week back or so. If that doesn't fix it, I'll have to DDU I guess.

Thanks for fast responses!

mmm... shouldnt games run at max clock speed on your GPU though?

i don't see anything wrong other than 80c, which is fine, but a tad high

I don't understand much about GPUs and how it's programmed to work but it's just bit weird that it goes 80+ Celcius in low settings. In high/ultra my GPU just throttles now. In Superposition I did notice that performance dropped a lot (from 10k points to 8k).

Display Driver Uninstaller, it is a specific software and that is it's name. You can get a download from the Guru3D website. It is generally best practice to do it in safe mode.

I used last restore point about 1 week ago and that fixed the issue. Thank you for help guys!

Next time I'll create a restore point before doing any GPU drivers update. :)

Good idea! Driver updates can sometimes have bugs when they are brand new, I dont generally do them unless I need a new feature from it very soon. I only do ones that are confirmed stable. Im glad your issue is fixed.
