Upgrading

I'm looking at upgrading my CPU. I'm looking for recommendations. I'd prefer not to change my mother board if at all possible.

Go to mobo manufacturer site and see what CPUs are supported. Newer CPUs may require the latest BIOS update. Then do a price research and evaluate if it is worthwhile.

For advice if it is a worthwhile upgrade, you should provide what you intend to do or what you are currently lacking. 

 

Note, older model high-power CPUs are quite expensive, it may be a wash or even cheaper to get a new board+ryzen 3600 or similar.

6700k/7700k.

 

They are pretty much identical in performance once clocked the same. 

 

That said.......overpriced generally.

You beat me. But check if ASROck also supports it via BIOS. Probably does, but you never know.

And that CPU is an example for the point I"m trying to make, it is pricy, requires a good cooler..... more expensive than new mobo+hexa-core Ryzen.
