Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Windows Pro, to be used mostly for managing (not editing) video files from drone/gimbal and to move them back and forth from the cloud (OneDrive). Not keen on editing, but maybe in 3 to 4yrs could focus on video editing.

this seems like a pretty large budget just for a PC that handles files.

AMD Freesync technology (not sure what that does to be honest)

it's to improve your gaming experience so it won't be super important here. so is 144hz so I think you overspent a little on the monitor.

Budget (including currency):  USD 800 // THB 25,000

Country: Thailand

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Windows Pro, to be used mostly for managing (not editing) video files from drone/gimbal and to move them back and forth from the cloud (OneDrive). Not keen on editing, but maybe in 3 to 4yrs could focus on video editing.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I currently have a Samsung 27" 144Hz WQHD curved display with AMD Freesync technology (not sure what that does to be honest) which I love and will keep for now. No planning to get another monitor anytime soon as this is perfect.

I used to assemble computers over 15yrs ago so I know what the (very) basics of how the insides of a computer work and living in Thailand, I can get access to most items. I do not need the latest/greatest but just something that will be able to move a lot of files across different devices (phone/tablet/cloud) easily without choking. Pretty decent internet too so no issues there.

I am happy to answer any questions but any help/suggestions on what to buy would be amazing.

Also, once I get this, I won't be looking to change anything for at least 2yrs (unless it fails).

1. Budget & Location: - as indicated above 🙂

2. Aim: mainly to store/manage/share/exchange video files (4K for now) from my android phones and cloud storage (OneDrive) and occasionally posting to YouTube (private channel). Full (fancy/skilled) Video editing is not on the cards for now. No gaming (for now) as I have a PlayStation console for that.

3. Monitors: Samsung 27" 144Hz WQHD curved display with AMD Freesync technology (currently owned and working fine/max resolution). No plan to get more monitors in the next 2yrs.

4. Peripherals: I will need to get keyboard and mouse. I currently use an old 2013 MacBook Pro so I love the old keyboards, hate the butterfly and I love to use magic touchpad, but for this build, I would be happy to get suggestions on keyboard + mouse/trackpad alternative. Wired/wireless is not an issue for me. I believe I want to try and use Windows this time, so will go for Windows Pro. I have a crap external generic webcam, but that is ok as I do not do a lot of video at home.

5. Why are you upgrading? I have wanted to do this for a long time and saved up to this point so I want to enjoy it. I am not in a rush and with no travel for now, maybe I can start to organise all the video I have collected over the past 5yrs on my phones/drone/tablet/camera. I ant to enjoy this and be challenged too.

THANK YOU!

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I'm happy to reduce the money also 🙂 a penny saved today can come in handy down the line

Thank you for this. I bought this monitor just when the lockdowns due to COVID-19 started and it was literally one of the last ones on the shop I found. I'm pretty happy with it.

On the hard drive, I currently have about 1.5TB of photos/videos online on 2 different accounts and would love to have a copy locally. I know I could use a NAS but maybe that will be another build. I also know I need to delete some of the files as they are just too old and will never be used/viewed again. So would you advise I just delete the videos or maybe reduce the cost of one thing above and get another 1TB drive?

I may go down to the computer mart and see if I can pick up some of the parts as opposed to shipping.

Lastly, THANK YOU!

If you are comfortable with the used market, you can get a 6th gen i5 and inexpensive B150 motherboard with an M.2 slot, and then throw in a 2TB NVMe drive. Though, I'm not sure what the used market is like for you.
