I have a broken laptop (Compaq Presario CQ56) and have taken it apart to find out what's wrong

I think it might be something wrong with the power button

Is there any way of starting it without the power button

Any suggestions

Thanks

in a desktop you see on the mobo what the button is connected to and then you can take a screwdriver to short those two pins, powerbuttons are very common issues!

There is a power button that touches a small PCB which a ribbon cable that leads to the motherboard

unfortunately if it is the power button you will need to replace it. look on eBay lots of laptop spare parts.

So there is not really a way of testing it.

if your assuming the power buton as it makes no attempt to start it could just as easily be the motherboard.
