Got a replacement XPS 17 yesterday, everything is fine except for one thing: my H key. It's loose, and if I press it near the left end it kind of pops up and gets stuck like that. Otherwise, the key works fine.

Is this something I can fix on my own, or is this something that Dell will need to replace for me?

It might be some glue that has become unstuck the easy solution is just to ask for a replacement.

Glue? No no no.

Take a look at this video. Might help you re-attach the scissor switch.

ask me about my homelab

There are usually teeny tiny (read: very fragile) tangs that hold the scissor to the keyboard base and the key cap. It looks to me like one is missing, based on your pic at the high corner from which you are lifting.

Primary Gaming Rig:

Ryzen 5 5600 CPU, Gigabyte B450 I AORUS PRO WIFI mITX motherboard, PNY XLR8 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 RAM, Mushkin PILOT 500GB SSD (boot), Corsair Force 3 480GB SSD (games), XFX RX 5700 8GB GPU, Fractal Design Node 202 HTPC Case, Corsair SF 450 W 80+ Gold SFX PSU, Windows 11 Pro, Dell S2719DGF 27.0" 2560x1440 155 Hz Monitor, Corsair K68 RGB Wired Gaming Keyboard (MX Brown), Logitech G900 CHAOS SPECTRUM Wireless Mouse, Logitech G533 Headset

Stupid question, but does this mean that I'd need to replace the entire keyboard base/deck? Or just replace the scissor switch?

Unfortunately that was the best angle I could get with my phone camera.

Only the scissor, and maybe the keycap, depending on which (if any) are actually broken. I can't confirm that is actually your problem though. The deck is usually a stamped metal of some sort so it's incredibly unlikely that is damaged.

If your laptop isn't under warranty, your best bet would be scouring ebay for a scissor or something like http://www.quikfixlaptopkeys.com/. I've used similar sites with great success to fix some company machines on the cheap. You can get a new scissor and pop it back it back together for a couple bucks.
