Hello, guys! I'd like to start a conversation about a theme that I'm interest it about and I'd like to clear it out. It's about using a CPU with integrated graphics and no using a GPU. That's for an specific use: playing videogames.

What's better option and why? Or, is it not recommendable to use the CPU with this integrated graphics and is it always better option to get a GPU for this use?

I read you!

I read you!

Integrated graphics are much less powerful than a dedicated GPU. Integrates is fine for running very simple games, but any game that is at all graphically demanding will get horrible FPS even on the lowest settings. You want a graphics card to be able to handle the load.

well the igpu gets some space from the cpu die and isn't very big, it can be good if you're building an office build.

also the igpu uses some  system memory as a frame buffer.

dgpu's have there own silicon, and frame buffer and are a lot better assuming it's a decent dgpu to begin with.

i'm always surprised by how much space on the die the iGPU takes up, perhaps not in density but area. So on F chips it seems like such a wasted space.

coffeelake for comparison

makes me wonder how efficient they could go if they completely omitted the iGPU on purpose

yea true, but if  you don't need the igpu, you do get a different chip for cheaper and it does basically the same thing :D.

yeah but......its THERE physically. Feels so WEIRD, lol.

Feel the same way about all of the "lower" chips that probably have disabled/underperforming cores locked away but still there.
