Hi linus guys,

Since more than 3 years i follow the news from the company located in yokneam israel Compulab. I test mid 2016 the first model airtop 1 over 4 weeks with an growing outlook in fanless workstation technology. Last test comes from linustechtips 18.06.2019 https://www.facebook.com/LinusTech/videos/1106318026221716/ Very impressive is Airtop 3 generation. I'm ready to buy a workstation for research and development to solve matrix equations, but we have actually more than a year later and whats wonder i found no new information for a generation 4 model. Have anyone inputs for new models?

What think the professional community over this technology of heat transfer pipes?

Regards

PhaseNoise

Hi, First i believe we speak here not from the same level of desktops. The Airtop 3 is not expensive compared to the rest of the world, it is cheap.

Please respect i'm definitely not a gamer, I'm a researcher and work in so many fields, from electronic design, EMC simulation, thermodynamic simulation and a few more. Many computations are Python scripts for CUDA or special compiled Software. Also i have a long list of SW from the rod.

I believe further the Corsair One is a good machine design, but it is not fair to compare this. The Corsair One is not complete fanless see photo from the Website. So for me the categories are not the same. The topic here is fanless PC in the High End class see top.

The big question I think is why you would specifically need fanless cooling.  There are reasons.  If even minute vibration or noise is unacceptable for example.  Another is air quality issues.  Fanless PCs make sense if the air is corrosive or unusually dirty for some reason.  For a general office situation though fanless systems just aren’t needed and a few grand is still a few grand in anyone’s budget. If a fanless PC is required though it’s definitely a way to do it.  Heat pipes are highly effective motorless phase change systems.  They have requirements to function effectively, but they seem to be met.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

  • 11 months later...

I've been looking at the Airtop 3 for quite awhile now and hoping for an update.  I'm currently rocking a 5 year old i7-6800k with a 1080 reference gpu. From the benchmarks the Airtop 3's best cpu beats mine but the gpu options seems to be a fair bit worse than the 1080.  I'd really like to see an update to the Airtop series that can compete/beat my ageing rig.
