Hey guys, first of all english is not my native language, but hope i can explain and you guys understand.

i am thinking about getting +16gb ram on my computer to create a ramdisk for OS.  i have ssd and hdd for storage.

the problem is that all programs and games usually install something on drive C, in my documents or something like that.

is there any way so i can add the storage of the ssd or hdd to my documents folder on drive C?

cumps and thanks in advance

You can't load windows into a ram disk from my knowledge, as windows won't let you use/move files that are already being used.

Ram disks are cleared when you shut down windows as the 'RAMdisk' itself is actually a program you use within windows. You can't install windows to you're ram disk unless you have over 32gb of ram and you install it in a virtual machine, and then it would still be cleared when you turn your computer off. Sorry, you'll have to use your ssd as a boot drive and your hard drive as storage :/

no,you can have it save the ramdisk on shutdown, and then load it on startup.

though it will defeat the purpose of a ramdisk (to have fast loading times) because it will take longer to boot since it will have to load the ramdisk from the HDD/SSD to the ram,and then load the OS from the ram.

Linus made a video quite a while ago, about RAM DISK this might come in handy for you. I dont know how much RAM do you have, but you would need sth like 32gb so you can use 16gb for the ramdisk and 16 as usual RAM. Also I dont understand why would you like to use a ramdisk only for the OS, ramdisk are better for caching apps like photoshop or premiere.

Anyways, here is the video

  • RAMdisks aren't recognized by windows installations because you have to be in windows for the ram disk to be functional.
  • You have to have installed windows to have made a RAMdisk

This is just one big paradox!
