I bought a Seagate STBV3000200 from amazon, it arrived plugged it in, it works fine.

However...the noise its making is too loud.

I can hear it over everything else in my room.  Can clearly here it spinning even from across the room

Is this normal? its not making any clicking or anything, just the normal operation noise.  Can easily make out distinct hum of it spinning.  In a otherwise silent room, its very obnoxious when I'm lying in bed watching something.

I don't mean its loud or making any bad sounds.

Just in a silent room I can hear it from across the room (the thing spinning)

3.5'' thing? Those aren't really optimized for silence as is. They are just normal WD Blue/Green etc drives in plastic enclosure. No rubber, no padding. Just some holes for cooling. If you can, set it to spin down or shut it down somehow when not using.
