So, I decided to manually OC my memory today, and in the tutorial that I was watching (see below, and don’t worry, I imported the Thaiphoon settings), I was told to use MemTest86 to verify that the OC was stable (which it seemed to be when I booted into Windows before remembering to test it). There were a bunch of errors, and the tutorial said to increase the voltage when that happens, up to 1.45 volts, which he said he has run systems at for years without problems. I did that in stages, and still got a whole lot of errors. At 1.45 volts, here is a video of what happened.

My ram is https://pcpartpicker.com/product/WRK2FT/gskill-trident-z-rgb-16-gb-2-x-8-gb-ddr4-3600-memory-f4-3600c16d-16gtzrc

Can anyone help?

Also, I know it says XMP in MemTest, but I assure you it is manual. Thanks!

Tutorial I used:

Cpu-z memory and SPD tabs.

You can include the Typhoon burner screen shots too.

Use HWinfo64 and see what the memory temps are. You want them below 50c on OC and OV.

If I remember you well enough, I think 3466mhz was doing something good for you?? refresh my mind please. I'm old.

I’ll get you those

Below 50 when overclocked or are OC and OV temperature sensors?

You helped me last time, but you didn’t say anything about the 3466mhz thing...

1. thank you!

2. OC means overclock and OV means over volt. The memory may have temp sensors yes.

...Yes, keeping memory cool is important. Put a fan on the sticks if need the air flow.

3. Yes I did. I told you there's not a big difference between 3466 and 3600mhz.

Uhh..... @ShrimpBrime, chrome is now not launching with error code 0xc0000142. I’m guessing this is related to the RAM, but it was working right before I opened CPU-Z so....

When the system starts getting bad, my best suggestion is to reset defaults in bios, or clear cmos via the jumper on the board. 15 seconds.

Then restart the overclock from the most stable point and slowly work your way back up, or working on timings, which ever point you're at with this memory........

So I adjusted my timings, and now the MemTest won’t load, and when I attempt to go into windows...

What do I do (preferably without losing my data)?

Also, yes, I did make the values bigger not smaller, because otherwise I would understand.

Reset the bios? And then this happened?

Or did you not?

Oh no, I just changed all the timings to higher values. I’ll clear and see what happens.

Yes you want to post windows clean and running a couple times. Constant crashes will kill the os.

You can use the installation media to Repair the operating system. All your personal files will be there but some apps may need to be reinstalled ect.

I reset the BIOS but loaded my No OC profile (which is basically default but different fan curves) and it booted! And chrome opens! I’ve never been so happy about that... I’ll try and redo it with looser timings (I just realized I had it at 15-17-18-36 when I wanted it, as you suggested last time, at 16-18-18-36)

Welcome :)

Make small adjustments. Just do one at a time. Test along the way. Ever get in a jam, clear cmos.

Memory tweaking is challenging. But you're doing a good job.

Thanks for your support and complement!

I have successfully gotten it to (what I think is) 16-18-18-36 without safe mode or anti-chrome-itisation.

https://imgur.com/DxjWudY is my screenshot. Can you make sure everything checks out?

The memory test still won’t load however. The OS loads, but once I click start the screen goes gray, not black, but gray... So if you know any other way to make sure it’s stable, that’d be great.

Thanks again for your help!

It's probably not stable then.

Occt linpack. Set it to utilize like 10 to 12gb of memory and 50% cpu usage is fine to help keep cpu temps lower during testing. If it throws errors, try adjusting the timings to compensate. Maybe 16-19-18-18-36 would be stable.

Lots of trial end error.

You can use CPU-z to validate your adjustments in windows. Memory tab.

And you're welcome. One of few who will take the time and learn.

There is quite a bit to memory overclocking. We are at the very basic steps so far.

And your welcome. Happy to help.

Additionally, there is a test called OCCT that says “Less stressful than Linpack, but much better at finding stability issues!” Should I use that?

Sure can. That's what this program is all about. Have fun tweaking and testing :)

should keep you busy for a few good days :P
