Side panel modding

Go to solution Solved by Scheer,

Hopefully this will help a bit. Say you have a 8x10" opening and you want the cover to stick out of the case by 2". You would start with a 12"x14" piece of material, and mark lines 2" in from each side. Then cut out the four corners marked cut on the picture, heat the plastic and bend them to end up with a box. This means it is one single piece with nice easy cuts.

You can test it out with a piece of paper first.

So i decided that i should just mod my side panel so it can fit my air cooler! i already got my hard plastic and tools to do it! but the problem now is... how to apply them xD sure i watch videos on how to do it but the problem is a little different as shown in this picture i just made xD

practically a big pocket so that the heat pipe can fit and i can finally close my naked computer parts

can anyone show me a video/site that can give me a better idea on how to achieve this goal? @_@

video would be hard but tips and sites are on google.

what i would do take the plastic bend 2 sides the size is what you want then draw the side lines on your panel but make sure that you cut 2 lines smaller when you will fit later your window you have 2 open sides and then you can bend the remaining smaller sides outwards.

after that you can mount it to the panel with no problem and less screws etc.

i hope that i helped you a bit with this if something is not clearly you may ask me any time since English is not my regular language

What did you get for plastic? If it is something that is bendable by heating it up, simply cut it to the size of your window and on each side add the depth you want it stick out of the case. Then cut a square out of each corner, again at the depth you want it to protrude, effectively making a retarded "+" looking sign.

Lay it down on a block of wood with the bend line right ontop of the edge of the block, heat with a heatgun or very carefully with a torch, and use another block of wood to "push" the wing down at a 90 degree angle, and let it cool. Repeat for the other three wings, and then if you want to get fancy with it you can use a nice hard epoxy to fill in the corners and sand to shape, then paint it the color of your case.

i got the plastic from an old laptop monitor but now i'm not gonna use it since it's giving off a double image effect @_@

and too late! xD i used a dremel to cut a crooked rectangular hole, it was the only tool i can use that can cut metal besides a metal cutting saw.

i like the idea of using epoxy though to smooth out the edges of the hole! :D

and sorry but you lost me at the "and on each side add the depth you want it stick out of the case. Then cut a square out of each corner, again at the depth you want it to protrude, effectively making a retarded "+" looking sign."

so do i use the same plastic to add depth in a cross pattern? @_@
