BIOS flash no cpu

I want to buy a prime h370-plus/csm MOBO and I'm getting a I5-9400. The mobo says it's Gen 8 ready. I do not have a gen 8 cpu. Do I need to flash the bios? If so can I flash the bios with or with out this cpu in it?

It's for a friend who is moving and has no idea how to build a pc nor the want to learn. He's running a gen 3 i7 and it terrible. He is just doing what he can with the money he has.

We only have tomorrow to run around and grab the parts from my area in south Wisconsin / north Illinois. So we are in a pinch.

You'll likely need to update the BIOS with your current CPU in it. Usually involved putting the BIOS file on a USB, booting into BIOS, and using an update utility there where you select the file off the USB. You'll need a CPU installed to get into the BIOS and do this. You probably want to search up a guide for your specific motherboard.

If hes trying to afford a i5-9400 to get the best he can now, I doubt he is able to afford to get both a CPU and a motherboard to switch to AMD, and still have enough money for a better deal AMD CPU.
