normal.mod not found.

I am very new to Linux and have been trying to install it on my external drive. I keep getting sent into grub rescue mode. The exact error is “unknown file system”. I have located my drive with the OS using rescue mode and have tried to fix it, I get stopped at “/boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod not found”. Does anyone know whats causing this or how to fix it?

Never had an issue and no one replied, I will take this to mean no one was able to figure out a solution. I was able to figure out what to do from an hour of research. I had to use boot-repair to reinstall Grub.
