Hi All,

First post here and excited to join :)

I am getting ready to build my first gaming PC and have been watching a lot of LTT lately. I was ready to start purchasing a few months ago, but then I started seeing leaks for the new AMD 4000 series and Nvidia 3000 series. From what I am reading, the 3000 series will likely be able to handle 4k gaming pretty easily? I will definitely be able to buy a 3080, but possibly even a 3080 ti if I feel it is worth the extra money. So, I have been looking for parts and I picked up a Predator XB3 for a pretty reasonable price.

I watched the video on how 4k gaming is stupid, and see that there may not be very tangible benefits to 4k. I was going to buy a 1440p monitor, but then I thought it may seem almost overkill to get a 3080 to run 1440p. I basically want to know is it wise to invest in a 4k monitor for 4k gaming, or should I just stick to 1440p anyway?

4K gaming is great on a big monitor, but kinda pointless on 27". Starts to make sense around maybe 40" IMO.

I run 4K on a 49" TV at monitor distance with a 2080S and that's a great experience.

Thanks for the reply!

Would there really be any downsides to 4k or the monitor? I got the monitor for 600. I was initially looking at the LG 27GL850. As far as I can tell, the monitor is pretty good and the price is good as well.

Any possible alternatives? Thanks!

No drawback apart from requiring a beefier GPU with the associated cost for something you don't really benefit from...

You can always run a lower res but the resizing tends to make things look a bit soft.
