So I've used a RPI4 as a plex server for some time now, but I'm thinking about upgrading it.
Today the Pi is hooked up to an Icy Box IB-RD3620SU3 with one 16TB EXOS drive, so sadly there is no redundancy what so ever.

The end goal here would be a device that manages to encode a few 1080p streams (2 - 4) and has more drive space since the user count of the server will be larger, with redundancy this time around.
I've seen the Ryzen 3200G being recommended around here, would that be enough? I already have an old Fractal R4 case lying around.

And what software should i use? FreeNAS? Would i need to reformat the current drive if I'm going to use some sort of RAID? What should i think about if I'm going to add more drives down the line? (I have no experience of HW RAID or software RAID).

Thanks in advance! 🙂

I'd avoid raid and just let any software backup program back the drive up to another one by simply copying the data.

For cpu look around for some used ryzen. Often first gen ryzens can be found for a really nice price and then just slap in a super ultra cheap gpu from ebay. Things like a hd 5450 go for like 5$ and would be plenty. If going new a 2400g would be the best option but a 3200g is alright too.
