Old ssd transfer

I have an old ssd from a dead PC id like to use. However it has an old windows 7 OS on it and i wanted to view what was on it before i completely deleted everything. would it be fine if i just plug it in to my current PC? would i have to turn on and go straight into the bios to check if it is using the right boot drive or can i just turn it on? also would it better if i just installed it while my PC is on? i can provide further info if it is needed.

Do you need to see just data files?  If so, put it in your machine as a D:\ or other drive.  Boot off your normal drive, it should continue to by default.

 

I always recommend installing items while the PC is off.

yeah just to see what was on it. so i just install it and turn on and i should see the drive?

Yep, it will show up as the next letter available in your list (D or E most likely) and be another data drive.... similar how my Steam and Plex drives are...

would having copies of some games matter? like im 99% sure i had tf2 so would that mess with anything?

Wouldn;t hurt anything. If you want, you can go into Steam and point it to the TF2 on the extra drive and it will add it to your library.  Or you can copy TF2 to your current Steam library.  If you haven't done this, Steam won't even know it's installed so it won't interfere with anything.

 

Great thing about Steam, Epic, UPlay,  etc... is they self contain games into libraries that you can move around instead of always reinstalling
