those cards usually dont use paste, but use a thermal pad of sorts,

also from experience: dont bother taking it apart. you'll make a huge mess, you may break one of the pushpins, and the benefit of repasting these is neglible at best.

 

my suggestion is to stick a 40mm fan to the heatsink, and wire it into a +5v line somewhere (or to a fan header set to whatever the lowest is your board will go)

This person is correct. Also, most people spell the finned mass of metal atop a heat source a "heat sink."

Thanks for the input, i'm just going to bin them, have had them a while and they drop speed constantly due to getting too hot. I'm just going to bite the bullet and get x2 Mellanox ConnectX-3 MCX311A-XCAT (SFP) or x2 Intel X550-T2 10G Ethernet (RJ-45), any recommendations? Thanks in advance.
