I'm looking at getting a really old HP workstation desktop with 2 CPUs. However, it's socket 604, and I'm having difficulty getting actual information from Intel's Ark. So, there are Intel Xeons that old that support hyperthreading, which would be ideal, as even with 2 CPUs I'd be limited to 2 Cores else wise, I'd at least have 4l logical cores with HT. Now, this EBay page is claiming that this processor (Here)  supports HT, but looking at that part number on the Ark (SL8P4) suggests it doesn't. However, the core that I have found on the Ark and can actually find on Ebay (SL7DX) claims to support HT according to intel, yet the page is missing absolutely loads of other information that processors of the same series have on their ark pages

Can anyone help my decipher this?

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X - CPU Cooler: Deepcool Castle 240EX - Motherboard: MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC

RAM: 2 x 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RBG 3200MHz - GPU: MSI RTX 3080 GAMING X TRIO

Looking at the part numbers that show up on the ark for SL8P4 (and which

are also listed on eBay), I get four search results, none of which support

hyperthreading according to the ark. CPUworld also does not list hyperthreading

on its capabilities list.

According to Wikipedia, the processors with an "E" in their model name

do not support Hyperthreading (source)

It looks to me like the eBay page is mixing up model numbers and names from

different CPUs. The model number is for the "E" CPU (which does not support

HT), whereas the model name they give is for the CPU which does support HT.

If that is so, they're by far not the only ones making that mistake, googling

around a bit leads to various retailer sites for that CPU making the same

error, even hardwaresecrets has it wrong (presumably) in their Xeon table

and lists SL8P4 as supporting HT.

Overall I would consider Intel's Ark and Wikipedia to be the more reliable

sources in this. If you want to be sure whether the model number or the

model name is correct in that eBay offer, you probably need to ask the seller

about it, ideally demand a picture of the actual CPU for proof.

On a side note: Hyperthreading was by far not as good back then as it is

nowadays from what I remember, just FYI.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I'm not expecting incredible performance, but for £10-20 I consider it worth it if nothing else than a history lesson. Now I just need to find a cheap PCI-E Gen1 or Gen2 card
