Hello there tech people,

I need some advice on how to solve a problem that recently appeared with my laptop.

I have a Lenovo Legion Y520 from 2017,the model with a GTX 1050Ti, an Intel i7 7700HQ with 2.8GHz , 8GB of RAM and 1TB of HDD.

I have done multiple upgrades to my laptop over the years,I've replaced my display with a 120Hz display from a different lenovo laptop, added a new 8GB of RAM for a total of 16,removed the old HDD and added a 500GB WD M.2 SSD instead.

Now everything worked perfectly and still works ,but I recently started using a second monitor.I got an older display from my brother that he doesn't use anymore,it has a 1.4 HDMI cable is 25 inches and only 60Hz refresh rate, but it's more than enough for me.With the monitor connected both my laptop display and my monitor freeze for half a second to about 2 seconds within a random interval. This happens a lot more often when playing games especially.

If I use the power saving mode or balanced mode it happens less often, about 10% for balanced and about 20% for power saving mode, but using this method cripples my ability to play my games as I get lower FPS this way.I'm not overclocking anything as it might create even more instability but if I unplug my monitor everything works perfectly while gaming even on performance mode.

I'm considering either replacing my power adapter,it has max power output of 120W, or maybe replacing the battery, maybe I need to replace both to not damage any parts.

I want some opinions on this matter as to how to proceed.
