3700x Upgrade

Hey guys, 

 

I'm looking to upgrade my 3570k build with a Ryzen 7 3700x. I need it quite and have a restricted budget. My plan is to use the following parts. Is there something in it I should reconsider?

 

Parts List:

CPU:   AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

MB:     MSI X570-A PRO AMD X570 So.AM4 Dual Channel

RAM:  Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3600 DIMM CL18 Dual Kit 16GB

 

Not sure whether there is something to look out for in mainboards and ram for this cpu. I've chosen them, because they're inexpensive.

I'm going to reuse the rest of my system as GPU is not important to me.

 

Budget (including currency): 550 €

Country: Germany

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Development, heavy multi-thread calculations, Docker

If you're on a budget I recommend you look into B450-chipset boards. They should be cheaper and the only thing you'd be really missing out on, would be PCIe 4.0. If you need that as well, you can get a B550 board instead. Besides that point it should be a good upgrade.

What price is this? I would probably go for a B550 board instead, unless you need multiple pcie 4.0 storage devices. Something like the B550 Tomohawk or Mortar will do nicely. The gigabyte and Asus offerings around this price should also be solid.

Unless you really NEED X570 I'd suggest going for a B550 board if you're on a tight budget. The Asus Prime B550 is cheap and has very good VRMs. https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/MFqHmg

I chose x570 to have the possiblity to upgrade to a newer CPU down the line - Is B550 upwards compatible aswell?

The MSI X570-A PRO AMD X570 So.AM4 Dual Channel is around 150€

B550 will support 4th gen ryzen. I would argue at this price point some b550 boards are more future proof as they have much better VRM performance

Yes, B550 has the same CPU support as X570. Only difference is that B550 only supports PCIe Gen4 on the first M.2 and PCIe slot. X570 supports PCIe Gen4 on all PCIe ad M.2 slots. I'd get a B550 over a B450 because even most entry lvl boards have better VRMs than even the best B450s like the Tomahawk. Expecially the Asus Prime B550 or the MSI B550-A Pro.

Was the MSI X570 A Pro refreshed by MSI? Because I think the first version had awful thermal performance and should be avoided

Yes i'd avoid the X570-A Pro, but the B550-A Pro is fine.

The B550-A Pro is not available in Germany and B550 Tomahawk is 175€. 
What about the Gigabyte B550 Gaming X? It's 50€ cheaper (130€)
