Hello guys,

I am planning on upgrading my RAM. My setup is:

  • Asus B350MA Motherboard
  • 8GB DDR4 RAM (single slot, GSkill Ripjaws F4-2400C15)
  • Ryzen 5 1600
  • GTX 1660 Super

I am not able to find a identical 8GB kit, but was able to find a 16GB single stick. Should i go for it? Or should i get a completely new 16GB (8*2) kit?

get the dual stick kit, ryzen benefits a lot from dual channel memory configurations. if possible do go for minimum of 3000MHz

😕

Getting a dual stick config will perform better, since the CPU will have dual channel. Getting fast RAM is important for Ryzen, but it will work with slower RAM. You can try purchasing an 8GB stick and filling the other slot, but you might run into stability issues and you WON'T be able to use an XMP profile if you mix RAM.

I use mixed ram, but at that small of amount I would just replace the 8gb, first gen was much more fussy about ram.  16 gig dual channel kit is probably best idea, if you use a lot of ram, single stick allows later upgrade.  Majority of people should be fine with 16gb and dual channel gets better performance.

This kit was samsung b-die at low price. https://www.newegg.com/oloy-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820821201  The 3000 2x8gb kit for $60 would probably be about fastest ram a r5 1600 could make use of.
