PC Keeps Freezing/ Lagging Randomly

Hello,

 

I have been having an issue with my PC for the last moth or so where it will randomly freeze for a few seconds and then act like nothing happens. Everything freezes when this happens including sound and my mouse position freezing in place.

 

It can happen pretty much whenever, but happens most often when I am downloading something or opening a document. It will also happens when I am not doing anything at all, or just modeling stuff in Solidworks. It even happens while playing games as well.

 

I use One Drive as most of my files for my business are located on there.

 

I have updated all drivers and the bios is up to date as well. I tried completely reinstalling Windows 10 a few weeks ago and the problem still persists. I have tried disabling recent folders in quick access and that did nothing. I do not have my build overclocked in anyway, besides XMP profile. 

 

Send help plz.

 

PC Specs:

CPU: i9-9900k

GPU:  EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti XC ULTRA

Mobo: ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero

Ram: A set of these  8GB Corsair

And A set of these 8 GB Corsair

SSD: Sabrent 2TB Rocket NVMe 4.0 M.2

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G+ Gold PSU

The RAM is mix-matched with different timings.

 

Does the problem persist when you remove one of the kits of RAM?

I will take a set of RAM out and see if that is the issue. I have had this setup for almost 2 years and have only had the issue that last few months. I might also look to see if the timings are referencing the C15 or C16 and scale it to the slower timing.

So you might have been right. Trying to download and opening a bunch of files and it seems way more responsive and I havent hit any lag yet (its only been about 20 mins). But still, I think this was it.

This can be tricky, but your motherboard might be able to set different timings for channel A and channel B. If so, the best config might be to put one kit in the first two slots next to the CPU and the other kit in the second 2 slots slots further from the CPU. That way the RAM within each channel has matching Timings.

Thanks! I will try that as well for the time being. I actually just order a different 32 gig ram set so that way I am using the same RAM modules in the same kit.

Okay, so I might have spoken too soon. This has made the issue less frequent, but it still is happening. Its kind of odd that this would help but not totally solve the issue.

Installed new RAM and it is still freezing. I updated the bios to reflect the new RAM modules. I am pretty sure it has something to do with windows explorer/one drive.
