Recommended Laptop for Programming

Hi, 

 

I'm looking for a laptop recommendations for my brother who needs it for programming. He currently uses a Surface Pro 3 and it seems to be overheating every time he runs multiple applications (i.e. video conferencing, visual studio, developer/server). With a maximum budget of $1200 what would be the best option to buy currently?
