Budget (including currency): 1000nzd

Country: Nzl

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: gaming & school

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Trying to help a friend build their first pc

What I had in mind Initially was an r5 3600 and 1660s, 16gb ram 1tb hdd & 1tb ssd. But after the case psu and peripherals this looked like it was going to be at least $500 over budget. Not exactly sure what sacrifices to make however I’d like the gpu if possible

Wow i didn't know these prices were that bad in NZl. You'd have to cut some serious corners to fit a 1660 Super in your budget. I'd rather go with a RX580. This is pretty much the best i could do in your Budget without peripherals:

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

I would wait a bit if you can. Those prices are through the roof probably because of the world situation... Hopefully soon enough prices should die down. What your getting for that budget is not great. i would suggest if you want it now with a 1660 you try and find one used.

Converting to GBP i realised that 1000 NZD is only about £520. If possible I would recommend waiting till you have little more saved up. Alternatively there are the options of buying used, especially gpu like an RX570 or 580. Or you could get an AMD APU and upgrade to a discrete gpu when you have more money saved.

If you want to build now, heres my suggestion:

Few things:

-Motherboard ain't great (Ik cos i have it) You only get one system fan header so you'll need splitters or a hub, and it doesnt really give you any options for future upgrade to more powerful CPUs.

-You will need more than 240GB, but this will get you your OS and a couple of games, so you can add a 1 or 2 TB HDD when you have the money

-Case is maybe not ideal, so maybe try and squeeze in something like the P300A if you want something that looks good, has good airflow, and will last you for future upgrades

-I would  strongly recommend buying a used RX570 or 580 instead of the 1650 super

Hope this helps :)
