Bitfenix Prodigy Question

Go to solution Solved by onionring,

Name one.

There are narrower atx cases.

There are shorter atx cases.

But none that are both narrower and shorter.

Also, the Silverstone Fortress m-ITX variant is taller than the Prodigy.

Considering the amount and quality of cooling and HDDs you can fit in a Prodigy, it is extremely small. While size is "large" compared to other Mini-ITX cases, the Prodigy is by far the best size-to-potential ratio of ALL Mini-ITX cases. (Fortress and Node come close)

I am not saying it is a bad case.

I am saying that for OP, it is not the ideal case, he only wants a basic rig that can be moved easily.

The prodigy is not that, it is a case made to watercool or put loads of hdds in or what ever.

It doesn t matter if it can fit 10 hdd and 7 gpu if you re ever  only going to be using 1 hdd and 1 gpu.

The rest of the space would be wasted and for a mobile build it isn t ideal.

Btw when I said size it meant volume as in all the mesurement combined to see the overall space occupied by a case, it doesn t matter if a case is 10mm wide by 10mm height if it is 10km deep, the overall volume occupied will still be huge.

Ok guys this is a very specific question about the bitfenix prodigy.

i wanna do a build that i need to be able to fit in my bags() as i travel

back home. Itll help a lot if the handles can be removed.

Only for travel purposes im planing to put them back if they are removable in the

first place. By the looks it seems possible

Are the handles(feet) removable?Has anyone done it?

i attached a picture where i explain better

Thanks in advance.

they are removable but i d like to inform you just how huge the prodigy is.

With the handles this case is 36 liters big , some atx case are smalle than this.

Without the handles it is 26 liters, about the biggest itx case there is.

If you are concerned with size (and not cooling) a sg05 could be an option at under 13liters big

If you care about cooling a node 304 at 20 liters is another option(can fit big air coolers)

if you want upgradability a sg09 or sg10 is an MATX option at 23 liters.

if you want a watercooled mitx case then i guess the prodigy is still the best bet.

Thanks guys helped a lot

What about the cooler master elite 120?

It seems smaller...

Im not planing to do anything special

Asus mobo with i3 and gt 640 4gb ed.

Not really a gaming rig more focused on the traveling issue since my country of origin has a very strict customs...

Thanks again

I think it will fit all your parts. Just check your dimensions to see if your cooler fits:

VGA card length: 343.0 mm / 13.5 inch

CPU cooler height: 65.0 mm / 2.5 inch

If you want the smallest case possible then it is the SG05, it is about 100$ (50$ more than the cm elite 120) but it has the 450 SFX psu included so it cost about the same in the end.

SG05                                     10.8L

CM elite 120                          20.0L

I think the elite has weird cpu cooler limitations, you might be better with the node 304 can fit just about anything and is 19.5 liters.

Fractal node 304                   19.5L

  • 1 month later...

Thanks a lot guys

i ended up buying a cheapo IN WIN case thanks to you guys that really pointed me in the right direction of what i really needed instead of whats cool or flashy hehehe

Wondering why so specific with my system?

Long story short, i live in Toronto, Canada but originally from Cuba(communist country/island in Caribbean for those who don't know but im sure most of you do)so i wanted to build a PC for my family i needed it to be solid, good for either playing games or working, mostly playing games(then why not a kick ass  water cooled system) cause i also needed it to be as lightweight as possible, as low power consumption as possible and as small as possible,,, ufff what a headache right,,,

Why lightweight/small: so i can travel with it im my suitcase when i go back home like it was a DVD player, since customs in Cuba are a big huge bitch with Cubans and cubans only

everybody else is ok you can bring anything, for cubans get ready to get raped no grease moment...

ufff thats done now here is what i ended up with:

CASE: IN WIN BP655 BLACK MINI ITX w/200W PSU but replaced that with Seasonic 300W just in case

MOBO: Zotac X77 ITX (chose this one cause it combined several things i needed for such small mobo and other brands didnt offered or had but i separate models, believe me i did some research i would have prefer asus one or even gbyte but life aint easy lol)

CPU: Intel Core i5 3450S(this is a masterpiece cpu, and was hard to find,,, great power quad core ivy bridge and only 65w tdp)

Main Boot Drive: 128Gb into the msata slot of the mobo(love it so far is amazing fast)

2nd & 3rdHDD: 1Tb + 256Gb all 2.5 cause of the weight difference

External HDD: 256Gb in a 2.5 external box(so storage wise is all covered hehehe)

RAM: 2x4Gb(8Gb Total) Kingston Low Profile Memory

Optical: Samsung Bluray Reader/ DVD Writer

Monitor: Asus MS238H(the only main reason why i chose this monitor is the form factor and how lightweight it is and also to be honest i got for 50 buck used,,, but mainly because it doesnt have a stand at least not a conventional one and had bad experience before traveling with a monitor in a suitcase even though i packed it like there was no tomorrow, it arrive broken because of the base, but no more lol)

Keyboard: Azio Levetron Mech 5 and Azio Levetron Mouse(got the real cheap also)

VCard: Sapphire Radeon HD 7750 1Gb GDDR5 with is both Low Profile/Single Slot and latest gen as well, and affordable and fairly good with modern games

The vcard is still not here yet but youll get the idea in the pictures...

Thanks again and case closed LOL
