Static When Moving Mouse

Go to solution Solved by kevy508,

UPDATE!: So I got a new power supply, the Kingwin Stryker 500w Fanless 80 Plus Platinum, and there is now no noise at all!

I guess the EVGA PSU had a problem.

I have been getting static when I move my Razer naga mouse. It is only when i move it and not when scrolling. I have a sound card so I plugged my sound into the motherboard and the same thing was there.

I have an ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0, FX-8350, GTX 670 MSI Power Edition, 8gb 2133 Corsair Vengeance RAM, EVGA SuperNova NEX650G PSU.

I have tried reducing the polling rate of the Naga to 125 instead of 1000 and it gets quieter, but is still there.

It is there no matter what headphones I use as well.

Any Ideas?

I uninstalled the drivers and it is still there. I also moved the card...still there. It is there on both the motherboard and the soundcard, so I doubt it is the sound card. And it is the wired version.

I have tried every USB port as well.

I've got a Razor mamba and have the same thing but its very very faint. Its a very low whine as I move it, but personally I dont notice it unless there is nothing playing and the room is quiet. How loud is yours?

Have you contacted Razor? Their support is pretty decent

Yeah, I was about to start a topic very similar.  I have mouse noise with with a variety of mice.  It happens if I use the onboard sound on my P8zz-Deluxe board or my Xonar card.

It's driving me insane! It never happened until this new build...

For some odd reason it is even more prevalent while playing FTL. ??

It is also fine through the headphone out which made me chase after the speakers, but they are fine through running off another source (self powered studio monitors).

I guess the next step is to plug the speakers into the headphone out and test.  Then pull audio from the GTX 670 HDMI and test.

I thought it might be a power issue but I'm running through a UPS so it should be clean, unless the PSU is dying...

Hi Kevy, I've had this problem for a while and have just recently fixed the issue. The static noise was most prevalent from high intensity tessellation 3D applications for me.

I believe the problem is a grounding issue with your whole audio setup. I have a couple of active studio monitors that have two inputs: XLR + TRS (Jack).

I've had both plugged in in this configuration;

XLR - Audio interface - PC

TRS (Jack) - Mixer - PC

Due to the XLR cables being balanced (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balanced_XLR) They are shielded from static noise and interference.

Whereas the TRS (Jack) cables are not balanced (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_plug), therefore pick up unwanted interference from nearby computer parts.

What fixed it for me was just to unplug the TRS (Jack) cables from the speakers and just like that, no more unwanted static whilst running applications etc.

Here's an interesting video that I found whilst trying to remedy my problem:

I can't suggest anything for your particular setup as I don't use an onboard/pci audio card, but an external audio interface.

All i can guess is it's either the speaker cables themselves or a grounding issue. I hope I've helped at all!

Cheers, Drummansam

I tried turning up the PCIE frequency in the BIOS to 120 up from 100

It became a more quiet static that was always on instead of when I moved my mouse.

This tells me that it is probably PCIE interference on poorly shielded devices somewhere... But its really hard to tell where.

Any more ideas?

Well, might be the headphone jack picking up the static, or the cable, for me it's only when I am using the 15m cable from the back of my room where the AMP stands to the front where my PC stands, the otherchannels on the AMP do not have this static, so I'd guess it's the cable.

I'm using a Steel Series Sensei MLG btw, so it doesn't seem to be a razer specific problem.
