Budget (including currency): £1000

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: General use and mid range gaming Cyberpunk 2077 will be highest end for now

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Current Spec

Ryzen 2700

MSI Carbon Pro X470

16 Gb Corsair Vengance 3200

MSI RTX2070 Twin Frozer 7

970 512Mb MVME

1Tb generic HDD

Looking to Get a new Case (existing case has poor airflow and fans are failing) motherboard, CPU, PSU possibly memory and (not in this budget) GPU but am getting lost in the multiplicity of options

currently am water cooling CPU with 240mm AIO with no overclocking

Whilst I do have some wiggle room on budget I would like to get close to that if I can

Not looking at the GPU in this budget, that will come in about 6 months, also looking to go next gen on motherboard (I have an X470 board atm) so it is there for future CPU upgrade.

Like the case and PSU tho, what are your thoughts on XT chips

This is already a pretty high end build, so if you want to see a real upgrade difference, I would wait until the new GPUs and Ryzen CPUs later this year.

Otherwise, this would be my suggestion;

You could sell your 2070 for over £300 and then buy this, maybe even a 2080ti. Again though, I would wait till the new stuff. Also your x470 board should be fine

I like the balance but I was looking at all but GPU and will be looking at that when 3000 series settle down, budget is for the case MB CPU PSU and memory if needed

Maybe this? Unless you need pcie 4.0 there really is no point upgrading the motherboard though. Could also look at B550 when it's released in 5 days

TBH I am holding off on the buying spree till after the B550 boards are released but except for the case you pretty much matched my choices, I went all out on the case as my current (pre-built) on is annoying me and was looking at the 3800X rather than the 3900.

Sounds good. 3800X is definitely the more sensible option tbh

How is the Phanteks for mounting water cooling, I was looking at the BeQuiet Dark 900 but it was most likely overkill for my needs

Its more an air flow focused case, one of the best. Should be good for any aio. If you want a more water cooling focused case, you could look at the Lian li o11 dynamic. It's a beautiful case, but it's a fair bit more expensive and you'll need your own fans. Have a look at Gamers Nexus' reviews on both these cases if you want more detail

I have been looking at GN reviews, and that is part of the issue. Each time I watch one I see something I like.

Will have a look at the LianLi cases, I have heard good thing but never from at real world user.

I could easily switch back to air cooled as I don't OC much and only switched to an AIO as current case had issues, I should have changed cases tbh but it was less work to switch out CPU cooling
