Cant change 144hz second monitor

I have changed my refresh rate to 144hz on my main monitor no problem but on my second monitor it only has the option to choose 60hz. It is the exact same monitor but it is connected through a display port to HDMI adaptor, is this causing it to not be able to run at 144hz?

You can try using the adapter with the other monitor, but chances are the adapter is your problem.
