My sister’s computer keeps getting random BSOD crashes that are several days to weeks apart and the message keeps changing except for once on the evening of 6/7/2020 there were four BSOD crashes in thirty minutes while she was trying to watch something on Hulu. The BSOD crashes were:

A little history…
The original OS before the reinstall onto a new SSD was Windows 7 upgraded to Windows 10 and from an older AMD FX computer that just would not power up one morning, power supply and GPU appears fine, the motherboard and/or CPU was dead, and were replaced along with the power supply just to be safe. I got the New Clean Windows 10 install onto the new SSD, and when I connected up the Old OS drive it booted into windows without any trouble so I left it as the primary OS and left the New SSD Windows 10 as a backup boot drive.
It seemed to work fine for a time but then started to have random BSOD crashes. I checked the HDD, updated the drivers and other steps that I found with each BSOD crash. Then as they got more frequent, I convinced my sister to switch to the New SSD I had left in for a Backup, and reinstall all of her programs.
The new SSD Windows 10 had only a few SSD crashes spaced quite a bit apart and the message keeps changing. Most of the crashes have been at the desktop, some have been at the login screen and there has been one in a game. The majority seem to happen while watching Netflix or Hulu.

Hey there,

i read dyour dump files that you linked.
All of the errors come from different processes or drivers but all hint towards the RAM.

I agree with ShrimpBrime here.

Would you mind sharing us some information about your RAM?
How many Bar's do you got?
If you have multiple
What is the clock speed of each of them?
What is the latency?
in which slots of the Mainboard are they attached?

the ram is 2 sticks and are in A2 and B2.

  • DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200)
  • Timing 15-15-15-39
  • CAS Latency 15
  • Voltage 1.2V

I updated the chipset drivers then the bios already.

And both have the same latency?

you could try to reseat them... maybe there is dust in them (yes not kidding)

Could also be that one of the bars is faulty, so maybe try to run the pc with just one of the bars and see if it doesnt even boot with one of them.
if it does, see if the issue persits with just one bar.

Alternatively you could do a windows memcheck.

What puzzles me here is that you are having bsods just being on the desktop or login screen.

of the 5 bsods you sent, 1 was caused by a process of norton, two by some system process and 2 by directx.

So far fetched guess, because they also happen mostly in netflix... could be the graphics card.

So if the ram seems to work fine then we could see if using onboard graphics or a different card work.

I will go head and reseat the ram and do a memcheck, and if it BSOD again, I will look into getting another video card as i do not have a spare at this time.

I have been considering replacing the video card since it is the only hardware component left from the old system that died suddenly, and decide to post here and try to get help, My computer skills is hardware related when it comes to software trouble... Just reinstall windows...

been working for me for over 20 years until now.  I really miss my Ms Dos, 486 computer...

Thanks for your help and i will report back when I have something more, when ever that is.

Oh this is 2400 (Jedec/XMP) CL 15.

Look for a setting called "Gear Down mode" and be sure to set this to disable. Power Down mode you can disable as well.

You can bump the memory voltage up slightly from 1.2v in case it droops a little.... like 1.225v or something of the like.

The Zen+ memory controller isn't liking the odd cas latency (but just guessing)

Good luck with your testing!

Ok, Last night I check the bios and made sure the "Gear Down mode" was Disabled, and bump the memory voltage up 1.225v, then ran the windows memory checker's "normal mode" and it did not find any errors so I ran through an "Extended mode" with cache enabled and it found 1 error near the end. Today I cleaned & reseated the ram, then ran the Extended mode" with cache enabled again and there was no errors.

Will let it run for a few weeks and see how it goes.

Thanks again.
