Today I had new broadband installed, the speeds I get are around 500mpbs. I have an ethernet cable running from the router to my PC and I don't get the full speed?

I have connected the same cable to my Mac and get the full 500mbps, however, as soon as I try it on my PC it caps at ~180mpbs.

I've tried using a USB adapter but got the same result.

i7-8700k

Gigabyte Z370 Aurus Gaming 7 (which I believe has an Intel 1Gbps and a Killer 2.5 Gbps port)

Any suggestions?

P.S. First time posting on the forum so not entirely sure of how this all works.

Howdy and welcome :)

it looks like it’s in the right place.  It is kind of a weird problem though.

The only thought I got is a bit oddball.

180 is more like a low end WiFi speed.  Does this router from the isp also do WiFi?  I’m wondering if you only think you’re connected through ethernet but are actually just running a WiFi connection.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Thank you for your response!

I am running this on my desktop that doesn't have WiFi.

Since posting this I have found that Steam reports (and works at) the full 500+mbps, it is only on speed testers like speedtest.net that I find it does not report the full speed.

I am happy fro this to be closed as it now just seems to be a bug rather than an actual issue.
