Upgrading from H60

Go to solution Solved by Analog,

NH-D14  is the obvious choice here, it is the king of all air coolers. Get that one.

I'm currently using a Corsair H60 to cool an A10-5800k. I'm gonna upgrade both and start with a new cooler and get a 7850k later. That is if the ones I found perform better than the H60.

I'm from the Philippines so I have limited access to good stores here. the 212 evo turbo costs Php. 1850 and the Noctua costs Php. 2500 from the same store. I also have to ask them if they have stocks available. My budget is Php. 3500

Would these 2 fans be considered an upgrade from my Corsair H60 AIO liquid cooler? If not what would you guys suggest with my budget in mind?

Thanks in advance, guys.

Ok, so scrap the 212 Evo Turbo and the NH-U12P SE2. How about a Deep Cool Lucifer vs. NH-D14, Cooler Master V8 GTS? I'll try and remove the heat spreaders/sinks on my Corsair Vengeance memory modules just so it doesn't interfere with these coolers. The Lucifer can be had for about the same as the 212 Evo, the D14 and V8 GTS are just above my budget but around the same price.

If you're looking at an Evo 212 or a Noctua, you might as well just stay with your H60.

H100i would be an upgrade.

(that's if your case can fit the rad) but also out of your budget...

The 212 evo could be a downgrade. not 100% sure.

I think the H100i can fit in my case, it's a Scout 2 and I think Linus did a build guide with it plus the h100i. Although the rad was place outside on the top iirc. But I just don't want to deal with liquid coolers anymore unless it's the only category to find an upgrade to my H60.

I switched from an H60 to a Noctua NH-D14 and got significantly better performance. I now have my CPU overclocked to 4.4ghz, and while under load during Prime95 it only reaches a max temperature of 69C, way better than the H60. So I suggest the NH-D14 if your case can fit it and it's within your budget where you are.

It is available and just a tiny bit above my budget. however looking at the memory module compatibility list of the NH-D14(http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=compatibility_ram_gen&products_id=34&lng=en#DDR3_Corsair) my Corsair Vengeance won't fit :/. Thanks for the suggestion though.

If you're looking at an Evo 212 or a Noctua, you might as well just stay with your H60.

Neither of these two will be an upgrade. Unless you with something like the H80i or H100i, you won't see any noticeable temperatures drop. the Cooler Master GTS V8 is also a good option and not an AIO.

What's the memory clearance on that cooler? I have 2 Corsair Vengeance and are 52.5mm tall. and I'm not sure if it's available though the original V8 is.

EDIT: just watched a vid with same memory http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZzhdyxPyfY That's a lot of clearance.

EDIT2: Hmm, just checked a couple of review, and it looks like it also has similar performance with the H60.

Ok, thanks man. Just gotta research more on how to remove the heat spreaders on the Corsair Vengeance rams. I've read so far that it's fairly easy compared to other ram modules.

A noctua nh-u14s or a d14 would be an upgrade from an h60.

Not enough of an upgrade to warrant buying, but yes, they will perform better.

That depends. I would actually consider it enough to warrant buying, maybe you wouldn't.

So you're telling me that you'd buy a brand new cooler to get a 5 degree difference or so?

Yes. And a lot of other people here would/have. Dont forget noise.

For me, personally, if I was buying a new cooler from the get go, I'd choose the better one, but if I already have a good one, I wouldn't throw that one away and buy a brand new cooler to get a several degree benefit.

Each to their own though, nobody is right or wrong, and it's our money so I guess we can all spend it on what we see is best.
