Help With Game Server CPU Choice

Hi all!

I’m trying to put together a computer for as cheap as I can to host a farming simulator server and maybe a Minecraft server. I doubt that either of these servers would have more than 8 people on at one time. I’ll likely go 16 gb RAM. I’m having a tough time deciding between a Ryzen 5 3600 with a gt 710, or just a Ryzen 5 3400g.

I’m mainly just worried that I might miss the extra cores/threads on the 3600, but will it really matter with the small amount of players that will be on? I welcome any advice about which to go with!

Thanks!

As far as Minecraft server goes, it really doesn't take much to run it. It's purely single-threaded in its own. Mine runs on a stock X5670 (Again, limited to a single thread of that CPU.) I suspect a 3200G would be plenty, or even a 3000G would suffice.

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Fedora 38 x86_64

Secondary: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G, 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, Fedora 38 x86_64

Server: AMD Athlon PRO 3125GE, 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 ECC, TrueNAS Core 13.0-U5.1

Home Laptop: Intel Core i5-L16G7, 8 GB 4267 MHz LPDDR4x, Windows 11 Home 22H2 x86_64

Work Laptop: Intel Core i7-10510U, NVIDIA Quadro P520, 8 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, Windows 10 Pro 22H2 x86_64

Thanks for the quick reply and the advice!
