RX 580 vs RX 590 at same price?

swarming1182

Hi,

Just ordered my PC parts and just wanted to make sure I didn't make a mistake on this one. On Amazon UK, the XFX Rx 590 Fatboy Core Edition 8GB OC+ is currently £178.00, 98p less than the Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 8GB, so I went with the RX 590. If the performance gain is only minor, but they're the same price, I didn't mess up did I? I've ordered it with the MSI Tomahawk B450 motherboard and a Ryzen 5 3600 along with 16GB (2x8GB) Crucial 3200MHz RAM. I've already got a Corsair VS550 PSU which is what the GPU manufacturer recommends. Is this all okay? Was there any reason I should have gone for the 580 at the same price?

Thank you

The Fatboy is a horrible cooler while the Pulse is a great cooler. I would choose the 580 in this case.

As for the power supply. If it's an orange-label VS - replace it asap. If it's grey - you'll be okay.
Orange:
Corsair VS Series VS650 650W White (CP-9020051/98) - Цени, евтини ...
Grey:
VS Series™ VS650 — 650 Watt 80 PLUS® White Certified PSU (UK)

it's fine, the card will run faster, just will have worse temps, so you'll be fine as long as your not building in a cardboard box

Why?

Because the orange one is a horrible unit. Not well manufactured and low quality components.

What difference does it make? I don't mean that rhetorically - does it affect noise, performance levels..?

I'd really rather not have to remove and reinstall the PSU and rewire it, plus put another £80 down for one if I don't have to... Most of them are sold out atm and my parts are arriving by Friday. I'm building it inside a NZXT H200.

Almost all PSUs are sold out online, at least in the UK, but I've found these ones available:

  1. CORSAIR TX650M 650W 80 Plus Gold - £90.90

  2. CORSAIR RMx Series RM550x (2018) 80 PLUS Gold Fully Modular ATX Power Supply - £103.58

Is it really necessary to upgrade my PSU? It is the orange and grey Corsair VS550 PSU.

If so, should I get either of these ones? It seems like anything above 650W is overkill.

My main concern is just not being able to figure out how to properly wire up and connect my PSU given my current setup and the new parts...
