I have a XFX Radeon RX 570 that has 3 DisplayPort outputs, 1 HDMI, and 1 DVI. I recently started a new job where I can work from home and having two displays is beneficial. Since my main display uses the HDMI output, I bought a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter for an old TV that is temporarily serving as the second display. When I connected the TV to one of the DisplayPorts, it was only at 640x480. I tried another port and it treated it as a DVI connection. I then tried the port right beside the HDMI port and it treated it as a HDMI connection and I had the option to pass the audio to the TV. This doesn't seem like normal behavior for the card and I can't figure out why it would do this.

There are 5 kinds of DVI and the connectors are generally identical or nearly identical.  Which kind do you have and can the cable deal with that particular one?Modern drivers don’t deal with DVI well.  Someone is trying to “phase it out” or something I think.  Dvi drivers in general have problems though the dual-link dviD ones are particularly difficult I find.   Best to pretend it doesn’t exist.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

I’m remembering the phrase “treated it as a dvi connection”.  If it doesn’t apply it doesn’t apply.
