My grandmother's nickname is "mima" but when I ask Google to give me directions to her saved address, it interprets it as "mema" and says "you don't have a contact named mema" (same problem when asking to send a text or call)

I am finally sick of it, and want google to automatically switch to "mima" when it hears "mema". I have done this before, my roommate's name is Brandan but Google only understands Brandon so I was able to tell it to change the spelling, but for the life of me I can or remember how.

It was something along the lines of "interpret _____ as ______" but nothing I am trying works.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

If this is in gboard, you can add Mima to your dictionary, although from my experience, gboard will automatically do this after you type it a bunch of times.

Hence why "reddittard" doesn't get autocorrected anymore, among other things.

I do use gboard but I noticed it only works for typed and not so much for spoken. All the tech terms I use on the forum are no longer corrected (like "ti" to "to") but out loud it doesn't seem to understand.

Hm, yeah, in that case I'm not sure as I don't use voice typing or Google Assistant much (and when I do, it's with fairly common/basic terms that it always gets right).

Change the contact name to mema?
Or maybe try her real name and see if the assistant can more reliably recognise that?

never really was the type to call my family members by name, and spelling it wrong is just strange. Either way, i know changing Google's recognition is possible, I just can't remember how.

If you go in to your contact list and go to Mima and edit the contact, then click More Fields at the bottom there is a field for "Phonetic first name" as well as nick name. You could play around with putting in phonetic name (you might need to put the phonetic name as Mema since it seems to recognise that) and seeing if that helps it recognise it.

Also, and I don't think this helps with voice assistant, but...

Settings > General Management > Language & Input > Spelling Correction > Set default spell checker to Google Spell Checker > Hit the cog wheel > Enable Look up contact names

This should(?) tell your keyboard to recognise contact names (at least when typing, maybe also when using voice to text??).

appears to only change the way google says it, not how it is heard.

doesn't apply to my keyboard (gboard) only the default keyboard of samsung's android version.
