RTX 2080ti FPS Issues

techerman

Hi Everyone,

My friend has a Threadripper 1950x and a RTX 2080ti, he mainly uses these for work purposes but does game with it as well. We are aware that the 1950x is not the best gaming CPU although when he plays Warzone with it at either 1080p or 1440p his GPU uses between 40% and 60% utilization and his CPU is always around 50% on all 16 cores.

His FPS seems to be much lower than what I would expect for that system (Around 100fps) and we find it strange that neither his GPU or CPU is going to 100% utilization, he does not seem to be thermal throttling, has a 1000w PSU and 32GB of DDR4 2933MHZ ram 16, 18, 18, 38.

Any idea what his bottleneck in his system is thats causing the CPU and GPU to only go to around 50% utilization?

Thanks!

Do you have xmp / dcop on ?

This could be perfectly normal but I honestly don't know as I dont have numbers on the 1950x in gaming since ya know its a work station chip :D

Judging from this video, the 1950x already bottlenecks a GTX 1080, so I can only imagine the bottleneck on 2080ti.

Interesting, but if it is being a bottleneck wouldnt the threadripper show 100% CPU Usage on all cores?

No that would be a massive bottleneck

A bottle neck can be if the GPU is working way less than the cpu

If you want to know if there is a Bottleneck or not

Just try 1440p and if the fps stays around the same then it is a Bottleneck

No, because no games in existence utilize 100% of the CPU cores, it's just that the CPU isn't strong enough to draw out the 2080ti max power.

No that's not correct

What do you mens there is no game in the world that can do that ?

Pair a q6600 with a 2080ti and you'll see that the cpu is pinned at a 100%

well my old i5- 4760k is utilized to 100% frequently when gaming.

How would you spot bottlenecks if not like this?

Windows 11 Pro 22H2

Ryzen 3600

Gigabyte B450M DS3H

GIGABYTE RTX 2080 GAMING OC

G.Skill Aegis 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory

That's because your i5 only has four cores.

Usage 100% does not equal to bottleneck.

If your GPU usage does not reach 100% that means the GPU is bottlenecked.

This is wrong a 16 core cpu is not the same as another 16 core cpu

I would assume you know what ipc is right ?

It's important

Yes of course, I was just reacting to the above post comparing a 1950x to his i5.

Also a 100% wouldn't mean a bottle neck if both GPU and CPU are relatively at that level not just one

If one of them is  pinned at a 100 then it is a Bottleneck

He was saying that even with a bottle neck or not a cpu can be pinned at a 100% it's normal it's not and I quote you "no game in existence can utilize 100% of your cpu"

I don't know why you're taking q6600 as an example, it's clearly obvious that what I meant is no games can utilize all 16 cores that the 1950x has.

Way to take my words out of context, I was referring to the topic, the 1950x lmao, are you daft? Can you tell me then which game can utilize all 16 cores that the CPU has?
