SMB Booting

Is it possible to boot off a SMB Share from a usb "Redirect"? Similar to network booting but to SMB instead of HTTP obviously no motherboard can do this so use a usb that "Points" to a SMB share. Is there anything like this?

Interesting idea, I wonder how bootloaders etc. will work on something like this though.

It may be possible to use Windows PE due to the ability to use SMB installing.

A PXE server is the easiest way to get Network booting to work.  But you can have it boot to windows or Linux.   Most bios only support PXE as well.
