Wireless adapter isnt performing properly

So we got fibre installed today and all of our computer but my desktop seem to be able to get about 90 to 95mbs on wireless, but my desktop only seems to get 50.

I am not really sure why, I have an Asus PCE-N53 300mbs dual band PCI-E wireless adapter, I don't understand what could be causing it to run so slow by comparison

Any ideas? or should I just go buy a new wireless adapter? any suggestions about which one to get?

If you have fibre internet, please do not use wireless, if possible use a ethernet cable. You could also try to upgrade to Wireless AC but that will be quite expensive. Wireless can have a lot of interference, if you are netqorking savy, try using a different wireless channel. Download wifi analzer from the play store and see which channels are being used and use one that is free. You could also buy a nice powerline kit, but I have not have the best experience with em.

I would love to use a cable, but where my computer is, is a floor below where the router is (big house) so I would have to run the cable out the window, down the side of the house and then in through my window to my comp.

Its strange though because speed wise my laptop doesn't seem to have any trouble at all pushing the same amount of speed on its wireless

What is the link speed in Task manager? Mine stays at 300Mbps 90% of the time and say for example I open my bedroom door the link speed drops to 270Mbps or less.

 

 

Lots of walls and perhaps wires etc will cause the signal/link speed to drop off and down thus reducing your download speed significantly.

 

It does it on my laptop the worst depending how far away I am from the router.

Seems to jump around a bit, goes down to 216, then up to 243, then to 300, then back down, weird, my signal strength is only 'good' compared to 'excellent' on my laptop though.

If I run an internet speed test it drops to 160, wow.
